Drypoint is a traditional printmaking technique that has been used by many celebrated artists to create delicate, atmospheric prints. In this class, you will learn how to incise an image directly onto a copper or plexiglass plate using an etching needle. You will then apply ink to the plate, wipe it back using the intaglio method, and run it through an etching press to produce a repeatable image.
The class will cover the basics of drypoint, including working with copper and plexiglass plates, mezzotint, and burnishing. It is open to all skill levels, whether you are comfortable in a print studio or have never used a press before. Because gouging into the plate can be hard on the hands and wrists, please keep that in mind when registering.
