The beautiful medieval manuscripts in museum collections are characterized by dense, angular, gothic-style lettering (also called Blackletter or Old English), highly decorated and gilded with gold leaf. Learn to write in a gothic style and construct the often elaborate “versals” that both direct attention to important words and illuminate the page with gold. No experience necessary! We’ll use calligraphy pens, watercolor, and real gold leaf to create facsimile medieval manuscripts.
