Explore letterforms, spacing, and the simple flourishing of modernized Gothic calligraphy—also known as Blackletter and Old English—that originated in 12th century Europe. Gothic calligraphy is still used today on mastheads and certificates. It adds graceful elements of italic to the original squared off density of Gothic, which enhances its elegance and readability.
