Learn basic watercolor skills and how to do preliminary drawings to prepare for your paintings. Draw from life, build volume, explore perspective, and experiment with painting texture. Expand your knowledge of and love for natural wonders. All levels welcome.
Student Supply List:
- Paper: Watercolor paper with a smooth surface (Hot Press preferable, 140 lb or 300 lb), 19″x24″ or 11″x14″, Arches, Strathmore 400, or Canson Montvale brands are recommended
- Tracing paper, 9″x12″ or larger
- Magnifying Glass
- Porcelain plate for mixing colors
- Paper towels or a small cotton cloth
- Pencils: H, 2H
- Kneaded eraser
- Pencil Sharpener
- Jar for water
- Brushes: Round, synthetic watercolor brushes, sizes 00, 0, 1, 2, 4, 6
- An inexpensive brush for mixing colors
- Paints: Winsor & Newton professional or colors in tubes with basic colors such as: Lemon Yellow, New Gamboge, Permanent Rose, Scarlet Lake, Alizarin Crimson, Winsor Violet, Prussian blue, Ultramarine Blue, Sap Green, Manganese Blue and any other colors that you would like to have during the class.
- Plant that you would like to paint, or you may use the teachers. If you have some insects that you have collected, bring them to draw from life.
- Reference images on a tablet, phone, or printouts.
