Explore traditional and modern mosaic techniques while working with a wide variety of materials in this popular class. You will learn about design, fabrication, installation, and the history of mosaics as you study this dynamic and versatile art form. You will discover how to select the proper materials for both interior and exterior mosaic installations and learn how to position mosaic pieces, known as tesserae, in traditional patterns called andamento. You will become comfortable working with both ancient and contemporary styles as you develop your own personal approach.
Along the way, you will gain a working knowledge of the tools used to create mosaics and explore how mosaics have served as both decorative and fine art throughout history. Beginners with self-driven projects are welcome.
