Learn the fundamentals of oil painting through a series of simple, engaging still life studies. Working from arrangements of everyday objects, fruit, and flowers, youll complete one painting each session using the alla prima (wet-on-wet) approach.
Throughout the class, youll develop confidence in color mixing, explore different palette options, and learn the basics of composition. Emphasis will be placed on observation, paint handling, and creating strong, harmonious paintings in a single sitting.
This class is ideal for beginners as well as those looking to strengthen their foundational painting skills.
Optional Materials Package: For a fee of $25 per session, students may purchase boards and small canvases and have access to student-grade oil paints and mediums.
Student Supply List:
It is easiest to order online. I recommend Cheap Joes, ASWExpress.com. or DickBlick.com. If you go to the “teachers’ carts section of dickblick.com, you will see a supply list for Beginning Oils by Elaine Lisle. I have labeled all items required or recommended .
If you already have oil painting supplies you can substitute with what you already own. You can pick and choose from these items and add the ones you need to your shopping cart. http://www.dickblick.com/lists/blicku/RP7DJLIQ6CMIW/items/ I have listed the introductory set of Graham oil colors because it is such a good deal even though they are not all the exact colors I would choose, they are great for a beginning set and come with small bottles of walnut oil and walnut alkyd medium.
Please email me with questions. elainelisle@gmail.com -If you are not sure if you need to purchase new paints, please come to the first class with what you have and you can borrow what you need to start.
