Class schedule: Friday, 6-8pm, Saturday, 1:30-6pm, Sunday, 1:30-6pm

Immerse yourself in the mystical world of fairy tales and create your own piece. Learn a historical overview of fairy tales, their origins, and artists who made their mark on the genre. Use your own personal experience as ‘mythology’ along with reference photos to create your own fairy tale painting.

Friday: Meet and mingle with light refreshments, then hear a short lecture about the origins of fairy tales by Jessica Libor. Receive packets of tales from different parts of the world. Receive prompts and think about your own personal mythology and what kind of fairy tale you would like to capture. Engage in a collaborative discussion. Homework: read a fairy tale.

Saturday: Discuss your favorite fairy tale. Sketch thumbnails and talk about what makes a powerful composition. Select a favorite thumbnail and construct a sketch based on your own personal narrative fused with a fairy tale inspiration. Reference artworks and photos will be available, and artists are invited to bring their own references as well. Mix the ground color for the canvas and sketch out the painting in grisaille after a demo.

Sunday:  After a painting demo and short lecture on the meanings of fairy tales, continue painting and complete your work, alongside several sketchbook pages of thumbnails and ideas. Please purchase your supplies at least 1 month before the workshop to allow for shipping time.
