Raku firing is an ancient Japanese technique that creates unique finishes every time. Learn to take a piece from the kiln while it is still glowing red hot and then place it in a material that catches fire, reducing the oxygen and producing beautiful finishes.
Week one, couples will create one-of-a-kind clay vessels and tiles. Then after a week break, as we dry and fire your pieces, you’ll return to glaze and fire them in our Raku kiln. Raku firing is a fun adrenaline rush, the best kind of experience for couples to work together and make unique memories.
On 11/21 students must adhere to our safety guidelines for firing, including wearing close-toed shoes, long sleeves, and tying back their hair. The instructor will cover all guidelines ahead of firing. All supplies included.
