Jyqueen Galloway

2023-2024 Resident Artist

I’m Jyqueen Galloway, and my life took a different path when I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 21. I went from being a very athletic person to someone labeled as disabled. However, it led me to a newfound love for art, a gift I believe was given to me by God. Multiple sclerosis brought tremors and unrelenting shakes to my right hand, yet within the realm of my artistry, these tremors seemed to fade away. Art quickly became my refuge. Friends had to remind me to rest because I would work tirelessly, often falling asleep with my pen still in hand. I’m truly grateful for the gift of art, a divine gift that allows me to express myself freely. My art is where I channel my emotions, be it anger, happiness, or sadness. It’s not just a hobby; it’s my passion and my purpose, given to me by a higher power. I’m thrilled to be a part of this residency, where I can continue to explore my creativity and share my unique perspective with the world.
