Originally from Ghana, West Africa, Owusu Ansah has been a resident of Philadelphia, PA for over 47 years. He is the founder of Owusu Studio. Owusu graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) and received the academy’s highest honor (Traveling Scholarship) during graduation (1983). Also in 1983, the African American Museum in Philadelphia presented him with the “Award of Appreciation and Recognition for Outstanding Contributions to the World Currents of Thought and the Arts.”

He later received both his Bachelor of Fine Arts (1985) and Master of Fine Arts (1986) degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.

Owusu works in all media in sculpture (small and monumental sizes). He is an expert in classic sculpture and multi-stylist/cultural art form where he adopts the style appropriate for the occasion. He is also a Master-Stained Glass Artist and a Master Carved/Etched Glass Artist.

Owusu has unique drawing skills, which he adopted in his earlier years. During his tenure at PAFA, an instructor told him his style of drawing is 3 dimensional, and fellow students at Penn described his style of drawing as similar to the old masters. He wishes to pass on these skills to his students.

Owusu is represented in private collections and has exhibited locally and nationally.
