Emily Downes

Ceramics

Emily Downes is a ceramic artist and educator based in Philadelphia, PA. Downes graduated with her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics from the State University of New York at New Paltz and completed the Post-Baccalaureate program for Ceramics at the Tyler School of Art and Architecture. She is often reflective in her work with an intense focus on nostalgia and Americana, sourcing inspiration from comics, cigarettes, telephone poles, and eighties films. Her work has been exhibited across the country including but not limited to Houston, TX, Missoula, MT, and Brockway, PA, where she had her first solo exhibition, Out of Townie, in 2022. When Downes is away from the studio, she enjoys rollerskating, collecting vinyl, and cooking.
