Virtual Exhibition

Main Line Art Center students, past and present, reconnect to share their creative journeys during the pandemic with artwork made at home and in the studios. Join us on Thursday, January 28th from 7-8 PM for a virtual reception and artist’s talk to learn more about each artist’s inspiration and processes. Join us to rekindle community spirit and reconnect with your fellow artists and admirers.

Lilith by Andrea Barnes, Paper Clay, Wax CandleFrom an early age my creative style was influenced by children books and my mother’s collages. I create multi-media pieces that are intimate conversations with my subconscious mind. Moments I spend cutting, drawing, painting, and digitally manipulating are the fundamental building blocks for later work that transforms into sculpture. Symbolism plays a major role in my pieces to decode the hidden meaning behind what I am intending to share with the audience. The symbolic objects I choose typically surround concepts of sexuality, gender, the human body, nature and the mundane.

Red Threads by Beth Galinsky, Fused glass, 8.75" x 8.75" x 1"This plate highlights the tapestry technique of fused glass, whereby 1 mm threads of glass are placed in a striped pattern and fired onto a sheet of clear glass. That sheet is then cut into strips and rearranged to create patterns reminiscent of fabric, and fired again against a background color -- in this case, black. Fire and Ash by Deborah Leavy, 24" x 20" x 1.5"As an abstract artist, I usually start a painting with an idea of color, applying many layers until I am satisfied. The lower part of this painting is an experiment in creating texture. The result reminded me of the fires raging in California, where a dear friend was forced to evacuate her home. Christmas Nagito Komaeda by Julia Gargione, Digital, 8.5" X 11"My artwork is a drawing that I sketched and then finelined/colored of Nagito Komaeda (An anime/video game character from Danganronpa) in a Christmas style. I drew it to get in the mood of the holidays, and to combine it with something I enjoy.

A Letter To My Grandmother by Julia Hoeffner, Copper metal and copper tubing, 6" X 12" x 10"This piece represents a conversation between my grandmother and I. My grandmother has Alzheimer's disease and cannot speak in full sentences, or say many words anymore, but that doesn't mean that her words don't hold meaning. The left side of the necklace are my words to her, telling her how much I love and appreciate her, and the right side are her words to me, saying "I love you, Julia." She can't say everything that she wants to, but when she says "love" and when she says my name, I know what she is expressing, and I know that she loves me.

Light in the Fire by Paulette Jellinek, Alcohol ink on ceramic tile, 6" X 3" X 1/4"The vitality and luminescence of the fluid alcohol inks, as well as my creation of a new coherent image inspired this painting.
