Have you ever wanted to try oil painting and don’t know where to begin?  Does the thought of “Oil Paint” sound intimidating?  It isn’t: Oil Painting is by far the easiest medium for beginners.  All you need to know are a few simple steps, and I will show you! Paint in monochrome (one color), “drawing” with the paintbrush as you examine darks and lights in a simple still life.  Develop confidence as you go, beginning to get the feel for this wonderful medium.  Look at what previous students accomplished, and what you can too!

 

Supplies:

• Brushes: Flat #4 Synthetic Sable (about one third of an inch wide), Filbert #8 Student Grade Bristle (about two thirds of an inch wide)  
• A paint bag
• 3 Jars
• Old rags
• Paper towels
• A small “trowel” shaped palette knife, pointy, metal is desirable
• 2 student grade canvases at least 16” x 20”    
• One quart Gamsol
• One small bottle linseed oil  
• One disposable pallet at least 16” x 20” or roll of wax paper    
• 37 ml. Tubes of Titanium white & Burnt Umber
