Discover the ancient art of chasing and repoussé, a metal-forming technique that has been practiced by cultures around the world for thousands of years. Using hammers and specially shaped steel punches, youll learn how to create raised and recessed designs in sheet metal, transforming a flat surface into a richly textured relief.

In this hands-on class, youll explore the history of the technique, become familiar with a variety of chasing tools and materials, and develop the skills needed to create your own decorative and functional pieces.

Your first project will be an ornament or pendant, followed by a pin or hair clip. If youre interested in lettering, you may also create a custom house number, nameplate, or other personalized design.
Nature-inspired imagery is encouraged, but youre welcome to follow your own creative interests. Silver may be used as an optional material for students who would like to explore working with precious metals.
