This class is held offsite at The Haverford School just down the street from the Art Center at 450 Lancaster Avenue.

Parking: Enter the Haverford School from the Lancaster Avenue entrance then follow the circle to the last parking lot in front of the glass building. Parking is free. MLAC staff will be there on the first class to welcome students and direct you to the classroom.

 

Learn the methods and materials of oil painting. Begin with an investigation of color and color relationships, then expand to the art of observation using still lifes and master paintings as references. View demos and receive hands-on assistance. Study a brief history of oil painting, learn how to properly mix and prepare artists pallets, and produce compelling and accurate images with oil paints.

Supplies:

• Oil Paint and mixing mediums: Student grade, store brand, or Winsor Newton is recommended. Purchase the small, 37 ml tubes: 
  
  • Cadmium yellow ‘medium and /or ‘light’  
  • Cadmium red ‘medium’ and /or ‘light’  
  • Alizarin Crimson  
  • Viridian Green  
  • French Ultramarine Blue  
  • Phthalo Blue  
  • Burnt Umber  
  • Burnt Sienna  
  • LARGE tube of Titanium White (200ml)  
• ODORLESS Mineral Spirits (Gamsol is best)- 16.9 oz.    
• two 18″x24″ canvases  
• one 10×10″ canvas    
• Plexi-glass palette (16×20″)  
• Plastic Painting Knife – 3″  
• Taklon Brush Set – Flat Taklon, Long Handle, Set of 12  
• Two clean, glass jars with a lid. (old jelly or mayo jars ), very important!
