Composition creates a visual pathway through a painting. Learn 45 compositional rules to help make your compositions “work.” All the rules can be broken . . . it just takes a bit more work. This is a painting class, so bring your usual painting materials.
Supplies:
- Materials for Oil Paint:
- Painting Surface: Stretched canvas, canvas paper, or wood panel
- Paints: Gamblin. Buy smaller tubes except for white
- Flake White Replacement
- Cadmium Yellow Medium
- Transparent Earth Yellow
- Burnt Umber
- Cadmium Red Light
- Alizarin Crimson
- Transparent Earth Red
- Sap Green
- Thalo Green or Viridian
- Ultramarine Blue
- Dioxazine Purple
- Gamsol: Gamblin Turpentine
- Neo Megilp: Gamblin Painting Medium
- Palette: I use a hard surface like glass. Also palette paper works
- With glass I use a single edge razor and razor blade holder
- Brushes: At least 3. I like to have 2 filbert shaped large (1″ approx) and at least 1/4″ brush (flat or filbert) The only round pointed I use is a small one for getting into small areas.
- Paper Towels: Viva and or/rags
