Develop drawing skills. Begin by using basic materials, such as pencils and charcoal on paper, and later expand to materials like watercolor paints, acrylic paints, and colored pencils. Incorporate composition, perspective, use of value (dark and light), and shading into your work for 3-dimensionality. The class is beginner-friendly, supportive, non-competitive, and useful for any skill level. Henry will provide demonstrations in drawing methods, including perspective and composition. There will be several group critiques of work. Your input will be encouraged throughout the class.

Student Supply List:

• 11″x 14″ sketch pad
• graphite pencils: HB and 8B (Medium and Dark)
• any number 2 (standard) pencil
• medium Charcoal pencil
• a stick of medium compressed charcoal (or vine charcoal, which is more expensive)
• “Pink Pearl” (or other) eraser for pencil
• kneaded eraser for charcoal
• large newsprint pad
• Additional supplies are welcome but not required, such as stomps (a blending tool made of paper, shaped like a pencil) etc. Subsequent minor inexpensive materials can be purchased based on a materials list discussed in the first class. Both Michaels Art Supply in Exton and Merion Art Supply in Ardmore carry inexpensive drawing and eraser kits.
