Paint beautiful botanicals with artist Robby Schlesinger. Learn the history and tradition of botanical art, how to accurately render flowers in your watercolor paintings, and how to create pleasing compositions. This class is suitable for all levels.
Robby Schlesinger is a certified botanical artist, a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists, and the Exhibition/Program Director for the Philadelphia Society of Botanical Illustrators. She is also an accomplished landscape painter whose work has been shown extensively in the US. She is a dedicated arts educator with many years of teaching experience.
Supplies:
- Good Watercolor Brushes: Good brushes are essential, but they can be pricey. Raphael is my favorite brand. If you can’t find Raphael, Escoda is a good substitute. If you want to save money, Escoda makes a fairly good synthetic brush Brands to avoid: Princeton, Blick, Simmons Interlon Brushes available from Paper and Ink Arts online are an okay alternative brush. Available in #2 and #6 and 3/0 sizes. About $9-1$2 Much cheaper than sable brushes, but available in limited sizes.
- Round #4 (or #5) Raphael Kolinsky Sable Watercolor Brush

- Quality Watercolor paints: (small 5ml) tube paint in the following colors (I like Daniel Smith Paints, but other professional brands are ok too)
- Hansa Yellow Light
- Quinacridone Red
- Quinacridone Rose
- Phthalo Blue (green shade)
- Quinacridone Burnt Orange
- Ultramarine Blue
- Watercolor Paper: 2 sheets (22X30) Arches #140 Hot Press Watercolor paper – Do NOT buy Canson or Strathmore paper
- HB Drawing Pencils
- Kneaded eraser
- Inexpensive acrylic brush for mixing paint
- Blue Painters tape
- Palette (small foldable ok) or a white porcelain plate
- Bounty or Viva paper towels
- Water container – quart size
- Metal ruler
- Sketchbook or notebook for taking notes
- Matboard or foam core board (14X16 is a good size)
- Optional
- Tracing paper – Canson
- Pebeo masking fluid
