Discover the beauty and versatility of watercolor in this exploratory workshop focused on building confidence and skill. Through guided exercises, youll learn six essential techniques: wet-into-wet, wet-on-dry, glazing, charging, edge guiding, and edge charging.

Using simple forms, youll explore how edges, values, and color create the illusion of three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional surface. Well then apply these techniques to expressive abstractions and botanical studies, learning how light, color, and form can communicate mood and meaning.

Designed for beginners through advanced students, this workshop is ideal for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of watercolor, strengthen their observational and imaginative drawing skills, and find greater enjoyment and ease in the painting process. A spirit of play and experimentation will guide our time together as we explore the possibilities of this luminous medium.

 

Student Supply List: 

• Tubed watercolor paints with at least the three primary colors (red, yellow, blue). 
• Princeton Velvetouch Series 3950 Synthetic Brush – Wash, Size 1″ – or comparable brush size and quality. 
• Princeton Velvetouch Series 3950 Synthetic Brush – Round, Size 8 – or comparable brush size and quality. 
• Arches Watercolor Pad – 9″ x 12″, 140 lb, Cold Press, Fold-over, 12 Sheets 
• Blick Folding Palette Box – Small – LINK – or any watercolor palette with space to mix paints will do. 
• 2 medium-large containers for water. Brand/ quality not specific. 
• 1 small towel to wipe water/ paint from brush. Brand/ quality not specific.
