Experience the magic of fire in this exciting handbuilding class! Through weekly demonstrations and guided instruction, youll learn how to transform your creative ideas into unique ceramic works of art. Youll build, glaze, and participate in firing your pieces using our raku kiln.
Raku is a traditional Japanese firing technique known for producing dramatic, one-of-a-kind surface effects. Youll learn how the firing process works and safely take part in removing pieces from the kiln while they are glowing red hot. The pieces are then placed into combustible materials, where the reduction process creates rich colors, crackles, and unexpected patterns.
This class is perfect for anyone interested in exploring the excitement and unpredictability of raku. Wheel throwers are welcome to bring pre-thrown pieces to alter and finish, although wheel throwing will not be taught during class.
