Explore a fresh and freeing approach to contemporary abstract painting through layers, texture, and intuitive process. Using heavy-body acrylics and spatchers (spatula blades), you will learn how to create richly layered paintings while embracing the beauty of imperfection and discovery.

Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and playful experimentation, you will explore mark-making, texture-building, composition, and the unique possibilities that emerge when painting with unconventional tools. The class emphasizes developing a conversational relationship with your painting – learning to respond to what emerges on the surface rather than trying to control every outcome.

As you build, alter, scrape back, and rebuild layers, you will discover how compelling abstract compositions can emerge through intuition, experimentation, and trust in the creative process. This class is suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike, and no prior painting experience is required.
