Learn to paint the fleeting beauty of twilight as day fades into night. In this outdoor class, students will work near the art centre, observing and painting the transition from daylight to evening colors. Using oil or watercolor/gouache, students will develop techniques to quickly capture changing light, atmosphere, and mood during the twilight hour.
Student Supply List:
- Portable easel or painting board (MLAC classroom easels are available)
- Sketchbook
- Pencil or pen for sketching
- Clips or tape to secure paper
- Rags or paper towels
- Masking tape
- Bug spray, hat, or other outdoor comfort items (optional rechargable head lamp)
- Oil paints (suggested colors below)
- Titanium White
- Ultramarine Blue
- Phthalo Blue
- Quinacridone Red
- Burnt Sienna
- Yellow Ochre
- Cadmium Yellow Medium
- Indian Yellow
- Viridian
- Dioxazine Purple
- Odourless solvent (Gamsol or Turpanoid) in sealed container
- Medium (optional): Liquin
- Palette and palette knife
- Brushes (variety of sizes)
- Canvas panels, gessoed boards or oil paper (small sizes recommended for quick studies)
For Watercolor/Gouache Painters:
- Watercolor and/or gouache paints (basic set that would include primary palette + earth tones)
- Water container with lid
- Brushes (round and flat, various sizes)
- Watercolor paper (pad, block, or loose sheets, small sizes preferred)
- Mixing palette
