Monoprinting (also called monotype) is a hybrid image-making process that combines drawing, painting, and printmaking, allowing for a wide range of experimentation via materials and techniques. Starting in the 19th century, artists such as Pissarro, Klee, Gauguin and Degas used this process as part of their art practice. Monoprints allow the artist to evolve visual ideas while creating works that can be pushed further using other media such as paint or pastel, or produced as complete pieces. Working from a variety of inspirations and visual references, this workshop, meeting over two sessions, will explore a number of approaches that can be done at home without an expensive press.
