Patrick Kelleher

2021-2022 Resident Artist

A veteran (USMC) and defense contractor, Patrick Kelleher was never one for artwork:  when forced, he limited himself to stick figures. Seven years ago, Patrick suffered a massive brain bleed. As a result of his stroke, he struggles both physically and with language, relating to others, and other challenges common to individuals with brain injuries. His art allows him to control his intake of stimuli as well as offering alternatives for self expression. His lighter work depicts images from his experience and imagination. Others are clearly deeper, depicting his brain injury, disability, and at times his sense of how he is perceived by others. His goals for this residency include improving his skills, making connections, and inspiring others to heal through art. Outside of his artwork he is an active parent and enjoys time with family, walks with his chocolate lab, and watching sports.
