From Sketch to Paint: Developing Oil Paintings from Still Life

Journey from making a preliminary sketch to a finished oil painting. Develop strong foundational painting skills and work from a still life setup to explore composition, value, and shapes. Complete compelling oil paintings from start to finish each week.
Student Supply List: 
- 9″ x 12″ spiral bound sketch book  
 
- Sharpie marker  
 
- 2B pencil   
 
- Plastic eraser  
 
- Kneaded eraser  
 
- Black or Brown Conte Crayon  
 
- 9″ x 12″ gessoed panel, canvas, or paper (if using gessoed paper, you will need a board to tape or clip it to)  
 
- Terpenoid or odorless oil paint solvent  
 
- 2 small glass jars with tight sealing lids   
 
- Paint rags or paper towels  
 
- Protective gloves (gardening or medical)  
 
- Painting palette or palette paper  
 
- Assortment of flat and filbert brushes (sizes 2 to 8)  
 
- Palette knife    
 
- BASIC Oil Palette
- Titanium White  
 
- Ultramarine Blue  
 
- Burnt Umber  
 
- Cadmium Yellow Light  
 
- Yellow Ocher Light  
 
- Cadmium Red
 
 
- EXPANDED Oil Palette (these colors are not necessary, but nice to have) 
- Cobalt Blue Or Phthalo Blue (note: if you are using Viridian Green then use the Cobalt Blue and not Phthalo Blue)  
 
- Cadmium Green Light or Permanent Green Light  
 
- Viridian Green or Windsor Green (note: if you are using Viridian Green do not use Phthalo Blue)  
 
- Cobalt Violet (hue) or Dioxazine Purple  
 
- Burnt Sienna or a Red Ocher
