Ryan Wheeler is a potter based in Phoenixville, Pa. Ryan grew up in the Philadelphia area suburbs and received his BFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University in 2016. Since then, he has worked as a studio technician, wood kiln assistant, and teacher at various art centers and schools. Ryan currently teaches ceramics at several art centers in the Philadelphia area suburbs.
Ryan creates functional pots for daily use in the home. His current work is focused on atmospheric pots with brushwork and slip decorations. This work is based around the weathering of the clay surface and adding brushwork marks accordingly. This work is inspired by the natural patina that objects of age and use acquire, similar to a well used leather wallet.
