Alyssa B. DeVille grew up in Claremont CA, “The city of trees and PhDs”. Excelling in art at an early age pushed her further north to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration at California College of Art, San Francisco. In her last year of undergrad she discovered large-scale indirect oil painting and abandoned illustration to explore personal themes of an enigmatic nature. She moved to Philadelphia in 2010 to pursue a masters in painting at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Within the first two weeks of her new life she met her now husband, Sterling Shaw, an established Philadelphian figurative painter, who helped her navigate the transition from illustrator to fine artist. Alyssa has exhibited work at The Society of Illustrators in New York, The Jonathan Levine Projects in New Jersey, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Gross McCleaf gallery to name a few. Alyssa resides in Philadelphia with her husband and 5-year-old son, Odilon, and their cat, Easel. In addition to maintaining a studio practice Alyssa is an educator in the arts.
