Aware of everything around her, Marlene is often drawn to objects that others do not notice: patterns in rust; shapes on construction sites; colors in graffiti; the remains of an old building that has been torn down where the patterns and wallpapers of past rooms remain. When she hear prolonged sounds, like the noise or hammering of an MRI machine, she “hears” those sounds in colors on her closed eyelids and wants to recreate them visually with color and movement.
