Handbuilding and Surface Decoration for Beginners

This class is an introduction to the fundamentals of hand-building ceramics, with an emphasis on functional-ware and surface decoration. Experience pinching, coil building, slab building, using a wide range of surface exploration methods, and how ceramic surface techniques connect to other media. There will be demonstrations for all form building and surface decoration. The remainder of each class after demonstrations (if there are any that day) will be work time with instructors guidance when needed.
Student Supply List:
- Clay must be purchased at Main Line Art Center ($30 for one bag of clay)
- Basic set of clay tools (can also be purchased at Art Center for $17.50)
- Apron or towel
